Fast Forward Newsletter June 2007

Hello Fast Forward.

We are wrapping things up at the ICA for the school year. We will be running some summer new media classes, and then Fast Forward will start up again in the fall in full swing. I thought that doing a periodic newsletter might be a good way to keep everyone posted. So, here goes…

FESTIVAL CIRCUIT
Good news! Good news! The Future Filmmakers Festival, part of the Chicago International Film Festival, has again accepted several FF videos to be screened at its annual event. Power Play, The Battle of Ardmore, Light Control and Inspiration were all accepted into the festival. Light Control has also been nominated as Best Experimental!! Congrats to all of you, especially you festival first-timers (Kerry, Patricia, Kameko!) The event is at the end of June, and the festival coordinators have some low-cost options for people if they want to attend. I don’t think we will have time to raise the money to go, but if someone has a rich Aunt that wants to fly us all out, be in touch ASAP!

Hugh Guiney just got back from the Reel Teens USA festival in NYC where his piece Twenty One was screened as part of a three day festival. We are waiting to hear back from the T Tauri festival in Arkansas, and the Roxbury Film Festival here in good ole Beantown. I’ll keep you posted.

ALUMNI
For you alumni, now including Rene, Andrew and Mike, I want to initiate our alumni group. How does Thursday, August 2nd look for everyone for a gathering? Let me know if you will be around. Maybe we can grab some dinner, or hang out at the new ICA, or anything.

Another thought I had was to invite you alumni back for a week (July 30 – August 3) to make a video here in the new building. I will be here that week, and a couple of the current FF students will be here. Any thoughts?

Janine Quarles just finished up a session in New Orleans as part of the New York Times Student Journalism Institute. Check out her profile and her work at the following:

Michael Coughlin will be in Sunny California interning with Sesame Street this summer. Congrats to him, and maybe when he gets back he can tell us how to get to Sesame Street. Tough luck for me though. I’ll have to pay for my food at Fenway Park this summer L

Other alumni news? Send it my way.

KEEPING IN TOUCH

I am starting a Fast Forward blog/website. This will change dramatically over the course of the next year, but in the meantime, you can check out the latest videos at:

That’s it for now. Keep me posted on what’s up. Invite me to join your facebook friends list, and let’s all keep in touch. Have a great summer.
